SAFETY

When choosing a summer camp for your child, safety is one of the most important considerations. At Camp Timberline, we make camper safety our highest priority in every decision we make. We are fully committed to providing a safe, well-supervised environment where your child can grow and experience the pure joy of Jesus. We hold this responsibility with the deepest level of care.

RELATIONAL SAFETY

At Camp Timberline, we have a robust hiring process that includes three background checks, an extensive interview process, and multiple reference checks.

We also recognize the seriousness of child safety in today’s world and take every precaution to help prevent abuse. All staff complete provided state abuse prevention training and are further trained, equipped, and assessed through two leading child protection organizations: Ministry Safe, a trusted leader in abuse prevention training used widely across Christian camps and ministries, and Praesidium, the nation’s leading child abuse prevention accreditation organization. Together, these partnerships strengthen our policies, training, and accountability to ensure we are meeting the highest standards of care.

We also maintain a strict, zero-tolerance policy prohibiting staff from being one-on-one in any private spaces with a camper. Along with this, post-camp contact policies are provided for both staff and parents to ensure clear and appropriate boundaries beyond the camp session.

EMERGENCY SAFETY

Being in the Rocky Mountains, we recognize the need for close monitoring of changing weather conditions, including storms, lightning, wildfire risk, and potential flooding. Camp Timberline uses real-time alerts to ensure staff can respond quickly and appropriately whenever safety is a concern.

Because of our location, wildfire preparedness is a key part of our safety planning. We maintain a robust evacuation plan that is reviewed annually in partnership with local fire authorities, including Allenspark Fire Protection District, Estes Valley Fire Protection District, and Poudre Fire Authority. This plan includes multiple evacuation sites depending on fire location, allowing us to safely and efficiently relocate campers if needed. We have also completed approximately 10 acres of fire mitigation work across our property to further reduce risk.

All staff are trained to respond to a range of environmental conditions and make real-time safety decisions throughout all activities, including hikes. Many of our counselors are also Wilderness First Aid certified, allowing them to provide appropriate care and support on days such as hike days.

We always choose caution when it comes to your child’s safety and act quickly whenever conditions require it.

FOOD SAFETY

We understand that food allergies and dietary restrictions are an important consideration for many families, and our goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where every camper can enjoy meals, fully participate in camp, and feel cared for. Our Kitchen Director and Head Cooks are ServSafe Certified, and our designated Allergy Chef is specially trained and certified in allergen awareness and cross-contamination prevention. To further support camper safety, allergy-related meals are prepared in a designated allergy-safe preparation area with additional precautions in place.

Food Allergies & Dietary Accommodations at Camp Timberline:

The safest approach we have found is partnering directly with families. If your camper has food allergies or dietary restrictions, we ask that you carefully review the menu and provide substitutions for any meals or sides your camper cannot eat (example: if we are serving chicken nuggets, you will provide grilled chicken or gluten free nuggets). This allows you to choose brands and products you trust while ensuring your camper has safe alternatives available.

We kindly ask that you:

   1. Review the *Summer Menu  and Menu Catalog & Ingredient List

   2. Identify meals requiring substitutions.

   3. Complete the Food Allergy Action Plan if necessary.

   4. Bring the food allergy action plan and labeled substitutions on Opening Day.

We have a refrigerator, freezer, and dry storage space available for camper-provided allergy-friendly foods. Please note that Camp Timberline is not a nut-free facility, though peanut products are kept in designated areas and most items served are pre-packaged, therefore we are able to accommodate peanut/tree nut allergies without substitutions needed.

*Please refer to the EVEN or ODD session menu for your camper’s scheduled meals.

ACA ACCREDITED

Camp Timberline is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) which is a nationally recognized organization that sets and evaluates standards for camp safety, operations, staffing, and programming. Through regular, in-person evaluations by trained ACA professionals, our programs are reviewed against these rigorous standards to ensure ongoing accountability and quality.
